| About Sonya |
| At the age of 13 I decided I wanted to be a photographer. There was something so exciting about using cameras; taking pictures was like making tiny paintings on the go. At Georgia State University, I undertook a double major in the B.F.A. program for Photography and B.A. in Film. Although all my photo and film classes helped shape the vision that I have today, it was my art history classes that really informed my perspective, and helped me find my visual language. My photographs have been compared to Dutch painters for the use of color and light. I am inspired by many ancient and contemporary artists including Jean Kazandjian, Ellen Tanner, Donald Roller Wilson, and Walton Ford, among many others. After graduating college, I had the opportunity to work in the esteemed Geof Kern Studio, in Dallas, TX where I worked with some of the industry's best and brightest in the United States and abroad. From there I worked with the amazingly talented Manny Rodriguez, who's food photographs continue to inspire me every day. My career in photography has included everything from editorial portraits and illustrations, still life, architecture, fashion and beauty, and everything in between. I am the type of photographer that wears many hats, and you will often find me location scouting, casting, decorating sets, and directing small videos. I served as studio manager and senior photographer for AMI Clubwear for the last four years, and have recently struck out on my own as a freelance photographer. Thanks for checking in on me! |
